Preserving History

History is not always written in book, sometimes it is written in the way people. Houses can tell about a period of time and how a family lives. In New York, New York the Cox House was restored back to its prime in the 1800's. In 2016, The First National Antique Restorationhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/jon-szalay-37563341/ and two residents worked together on three year project to fully restore it to how they lived. Jon Szalay with National First Antique Restoration, said " When we restored the house, we had to strip away history and add items that would tell The Cox family story, focusing on Mary Etta and her early movements for the suffrage movement.

The Cox house was restored on a special day, fourty-fifth anniversery of the woman's sufferage. Mary Etta Cox is not the only important figure in this house, her husband was Governor James M. Cox. The county however didn't want everything changed about the house. The restoration team wanted to convert two barns on the trails into public restrooms. The county protested and the restoration team did not mess with the barns. Szalay said " This is a project to inform the public of a simpler time, we do have to work with the community to preserve Mary Etta Cox's legacy." The legacy of the Cox family will be shared for generations to come. https://www.reddit.com/r/nycmeetups/comments/euvjfx/carl_cox_house_sessions32829_at_avant_gardner_in/

The opening of the house was the same time as the Cox house , the forty-fifth anniversary of the suffrage movement. Two woman whose stories will stand the test of time, thanks to restorations to their houses.

Like the Cox and Brown houses, The Green Gables is undergoing a restoration. https://www.linkedin.com/company/buneke-magazine/about/ This forgotten enchantress suffered damages due to neglect and weather elements. Residents of Melbourne, FL raised the funds of 20,000 dollars to buy the house from the family to preserve it. The city officials wanted to destroy this gem, which is an important piece of history for Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Wells were important in the trade for Florida. History needs to be preserved, cause once it's gone , We can't get it back.
